Throughout the history of time, hatred, wars, natural disasters, diseases and conflicts have forced us to run away in order to find a new place to live. Each and every step of the way towards escaping and exile causes our identity to break up, crack, dry up and fall off in order to make room for a brand new identity. And when the old identity breaks up, memories start getting blurry and then they disappear. This journey is a transformation, it’s a ritual, it’s also an inner and painful journey. It brings us together and awakens in us a cry of rebirth through tribal and ancestral music. That journey transforms us into matter, where we return to the origin of creation, to the core of universal memory. There we face new paths and leave our old bodies behind. This journey means not returning to the past.

Confined a new Australian Chamber Opera written over a three year period in Alice Springs, has been created around the unique vocal talents of soprano Tammy Brennan. The work is scored for solo voice and a chamber ensemble that comprises a unique blend of western and non western instruments. Drawing on Ovid's myth, Narcissus and Echo; Confined presents an original libretto conceived, written and performed by Tammy Brennan. Directed by international performance maker Younes Bachir with music composed by Barton Staggs. Confined follows the journey of a young woman’s descent into the underworld, as she comes to terms with the trauma of her past and consequences of irreversible action. The work presents a bold new contemporary operatic performance language exploring physical and aerial theatre with striking visual installations around the themes of trauma, sexual abuse, voice hearing, schizophrenia, depression and suicide.

Tesla Nix is an American recording artist, songwriter, actress, producer and stage performer based in Barcelona, Spain. Living in Seattle, Washington in the 1990s, she sang in hip-hop, acid jazz, and rhythm and blues bands all the while surrounded by grunge music. But she was forever changed by artists from the trip-hop genre like Massive Attack with their intelligent beats, sexy dub bass lines and sensual vocals.
